Christmas Village Hunters Hut

Christmas Village Hunters Hut is a basic six-bunk hut in Stewart Island/Rakiura hunting country within Rakiura National Park, used for hunters who have booked the surrounding hunting blocks. The hut is owned and maintained by the Rakiura Hunter Camps Trust, and it’s available for public use only when you’ve arranged your booking through the visitor centre process.

Sleeping and water are straightforward: it has six bunks with mattresses, and water comes from a rainwater tank (boil water before drinking). Heating is provided by a woodburner / pot-belly-style stove, and the hut has a long-drop toilet plus a meat safe bench inside and outside.

Use is tightly tied to the hunting-block booking: bookings are essential and are handled through the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre (contact details are provided there). Hut fees are $30 per person for the length of stay, up to 10 days maximum, and hunting requires a hunting permit for the Christmas hunting block.
