Deas Cove Hut

Deas Cove Hut is a standard 10-bunk backcountry hut in western Fiordland, in Deas Cove (Thompson Sound / Doubtful Sound). It’s run by the Department of Conservation for Fiordland-style backcountry stays.

Use is first come, first served—no hut booking is required. To sleep there, you need a Standard Hut Ticket (buy one for each night) and place it in the honesty box at the hut; a Backcountry Hut Pass also covers most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period. The hut charges per night for adults and youth (with children 0–4 free). Drinking water is untreated, and there is a toilet serviced by a pit latrine; a fireplace is available.
