Dillon Hut

Dillon Hut is a Department of Conservation standard 10-bunk hut in the Kelly Range–Styx River area on the West Coast (Hokitika area). It’s set up for backcountry overnights with sleeping provisions and a fireplace, plus toilets with pit-latrine disposal and drinking water that is untreated.

Use is first come, first served—standard hut bookings aren’t required. To stay overnight you need a Standard Hut Ticket for each night (put it in the honesty box at the hut), or use a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts over a 12-month period; fees change from 1 July 2026. Tracks to the hut run for 2 days (listed difficulty: Expert) or 3–4 days (listed difficulty: Expert).
