Dog Box Bivouac
Dog Box Bivouac is a very basic backcountry bivvy in Te Kahui Kaupeka Conservation Park, built as a protected emergency-style shelter that predates many modern hut amenities. It’s a primitive “dog box” structure associated with deer-culler bivouacs dating to 1943, and it’s used as a simple overnight stop when conditions and access make other options impractical.
