Fantasyland Boulders

Fantasyland Boulders sits above Lower Arrow Lake in the West Kootenays near Castlegar, on a broad bench beneath large cliffs with a notably dense concentration of boulders. The rock is gneiss, and the area combines steep caves, technical highballs, crimpy test-pieces, and shorter problems with good landings.

The approach from the Syringa Creek Provincial Park turnoff follows switchbacks and an old overgrown forestry road, reaching the main area in about 20 minutes from the car. Another access description starts from the 1 km marker on Rialto Creek Road, then follows a flagged trail uphill through forest.

The 2018 guide highlights Air of Slytherin and Live Long & Prosper at V1, Virunga and Kapow at V2, Rubix at V3, Sauron’s Eye at V5, Art of War at V5/6, Durin’s Day at V6, Nagini at V7, Silverback at V8, and Battle with Balrog at V8/9. Named formations include Mothership, Cube, Borderlands, Jurassic, Congo, BFG, and Dr. Suess.
