Franklin Hut

Loading map…

Franklin Hut is a backcountry hut on New Zealand’s West Coast that provides basic shelter for tramping-style access into the Okuru River Conservation Area. It’s set up for small groups, with 3 bunks (and basic sleeping provisions such as mattresses).

Facilities are basic: toilets are provided, and there’s a heating source that can be used via an open fire/wood burner. Expect to be fully self-sufficient—bring your own sleeping bag and your own cooking stove. Use is typically pay-as-you-go rather than reservations, with first-come, first-served access and payment via Backcountry Hut Tickets or Backcountry Pass options before you arrive.
