Freshwater Hut

Freshwater Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Rakiura National Park on Stewart Island/Rakiura. It’s a standard 16-bunk hut used for overnight stays while hunting and in the wider park area.

Use is first come, first served—standard hut bookings aren’t required. The hut water isn’t treated, so boil water before use; the hut provides a fireplace, mattresses, and toilets with flush disposal.
