Frew Hut

Frew Hut is a standard 10-bunk Department of Conservation backcountry hut in the Kokatahi River–Whitcombe River area (West Coast). It’s first come, first served—no standard bookings are required—so plan to arrive ready to claim a bunk when you get there.

The hut runs on a hut ticket system: buy a Standard Hut Ticket (blue for adults, yellow for youth) for each night’s stay and place it in the honesty box at the hut. Adult stays cost $10 per night (youth $5 for ages 5–17; children/infants 0–4 are free) until 30 June 2026; from 1 July 2026, fees change. The hut has untreated drinking water, a fireplace, and toilet facilities including a pit latrine; mattresses are provided.
