Halfway Hut

Halfway Hut is a standard 12-bunk backcountry hut in Fiordland National Park, run by the Department of Conservation. Use is first come, first served—no bookings are required.

The hut has mattresses and a fireplace, and it includes toilets with pit-latrine disposal. Drinking water is untreated, so plan to filter or treat water before use. Fees apply: $10 per night for adults (18+), $5 per night for youth (5–17), and free for children/infants (0–4); prior to 30 June 2026, hut stays use a Standard Hut Ticket placed in the honesty box at the hut, or you can use a Backcountry Hut Pass for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period.
