Hamilton Hut

Hamilton Hut is a Department of Conservation serviced backcountry hut in Craigieburn Forest Park (North Canterbury and Arthur’s Pass area). It has 20 bunk beds and is supported with a fireplace; drinking water provided is untreated, and toilets use a pit latrine disposal system.

Use is by booking: serviced stays require bookings (no spaces kept for walk-ins). Backcountry Hut Passes are valid from 1 May to 30 September, but the hut ticket/pass system for camping around the hut extends year-round within 200 metres of the huts; rates include adult, youth, and child/infant categories. Te Araroa walkers should register and use the Te Araroa Trail Pass for their stays; check the hut ticket type and buy a standard hut ticket for each night’s stay if you’re not using a pass.
