Hawdon Hut
Hawdon Hut is a serviced 20-bunk backcountry hut in Arthur’s Pass National Park (Canterbury), run by the Department of Conservation. The hut is on radio link to the Arthur’s Pass Visitor Centre, monitored during office hours (8:30 am–4:30 pm, 7 days except Christmas Day).
Heating is provided by a log burner, but you need your own cooker and utensils. Fees apply: $25 per night for adults (18+), $12.50 per night for youth (5–17), and child/infant (0–4) is free; bookings are open for stays up to 30 June 2027, and if no online availability shows then the hut is fully booked (no spaces held for walk-ins). Drinking water is untreated, and there are pit latrines for toilets.
