Hende's Hut
Hende's Hut is a small corrugated iron shelter in Westland Tai Poutini National Park, managed by the Department of Conservation. Built in 1907, it was originally associated with Peter Hende’s smithy work during the construction of Hende’s Gallery, and it remains an on-track shelter on the Roberts Point Track for a sheltered lunch stop.
The Roberts Point Track to the hut is an advanced tramping route with steep, rocky terrain that can be very slippery. The hut area is reached after roughly an hour of walking, and from Hende’s Hut the track continues onward toward the final Roberts Point lookout.
