Hideaway Hut

Hideaway Hut is a Department of Conservation basic/bivvy style backcountry hut in the Mackenzie Country / Waitaki area, set in Ahuriri Conservation Park (Canterbury). It’s set up for first-come, first-served use with 6 bunk beds, and it includes pit latrine toilets and no fireplace or drinking water.

Hideaway Hut is also known for preserved “farming history” details on the hut exterior, with pencilled names and dates connected to sheep mustering, including an 1895 date and an external inscription referencing Lord Bledisloe and May 6th 1931.
