Ida Railway Hut

Ida Railway Hut is a Department of Conservation backcountry hut in Oteake Conservation Park (Central Otago). It was originally a railway station in the Ida Valley and was relocated to serve as a mustering hut, now giving access to overnight stays in tussock country via the Ida Valley area. The hut sleeps 12 across 12 bunks and is first come, first served; standard bookings aren’t required, but you do need a hut ticket placed in the honesty box for each night you use the hut. It has a fireplace and visitors are advised to bring wood, and it also has toilet facilities with pit latrine disposal. Fees run per night with different rates for adults and youth, with updated rates applying from 1 July 2026.
