Homer Hut

Homer Hut is a New Zealand Alpine Club backcountry hut in Fiordland National Park, set in the Darran Mountains area and used as a base for rock climbing and alpine trips in the Darrans. The hut sits at about 900 m at Homer Forks in the Upper Hollyford Valley, with road access to within about 200 m of the hut site.

Inside, Homer Hut provides 24 bunks across three bunk rooms (two main rooms plus a wardens’ quarter), plus gas stoves, utensils, a common room, and a water tank with rainwater (untreated, collected from roof runoff). There’s no fridge and the hut relies on solar lighting and a radio; toilet/floor cleaning supplies are provided, while hut users are expected to bring their own toilet paper, cleaning products, and t-towels.

Bookings are required. During the high climbing season (Dec 8, 2026 to Mar 29, 2027), the hut is limited to NZAC members; outside those dates, non-members can book. Camping is allowed only in the immediate vicinity of the hut and is for members only, with a maximum of 6 tents permitted and a dedicated tent-site booking; sleeping in vans or cars at the Homer Hut site is not permitted.
