Huntsman Hide-Away
Huntsman Hide-Away is a rustic wilderness hut in Tasmania’s Great Western Tiers Conservation Area. It’s managed by Apex volunteers and is used regularly by scouts and school groups because it’s a large shelter with easy access from the Huntsman Lake area.
The hut has a wood-burning stove in the centre and multiple bunks built along the walls. It’s built as a substantial structure on a concrete slab (about 6 m by 15 m), with access from the end of Huntsman Road; from the parking/picnic area, the hut is roughly 100 m downhill along a dirt road.
A common way to reach it is via the Meander Falls or Split Rock tracks in the broader Meander Falls and Split Rock circuit. There’s also an on-track side detour to the hut from the Split Rock Falls Track area (with a toilet nearby on that detour).
