Ivory Lake Hut

Ivory Lake Hut is a basic six-bunk backcountry hut in the Waitaha River area on the West Coast, managed by the Department of Conservation. Beds are first come, first served and no bookings are required.

There’s no toilet at the hut, so you’ll need to manage toilet waste yourself with a poo pot; take waste away rather than burying it in this sensitive alpine area. The hut is free to use, but it sits on a route that is no longer maintained by DOC and only gets sporadic maintenance by Permolat. The hut is in Paparoa National Park area; plan your approach using the NZTopo50 map sheet BW18.
