Route Details

June Valley Emergency Shelter is a basic backcountry shelter on Baffin Island, Nunavut, operated by Parks Canada. It’s an unreservable emergency shelter intended for life-threatening emergencies and inclement weather, so it should not be treated as standard accommodation.

Use is free and there’s no fee or reservation requirement indicated for the shelter itself. The surrounding Akshayuk Pass route is operated under a strict wilderness camping approach, with groups spending nights in tents rather than inside the shelter; camping is also not permitted inside these emergency shelters, though nearby areas can be used for camps.
