Route Details

The Mouth of North Pangnirtung Emergency Shelter is a basic backcountry emergency cabin operated by Parks Canada near the mouth of the North Pangnirtung Fiord in Auyuittuq National Park. It’s intended as a safety net for emergencies rather than planned overnight lodging, and it’s kept unlocked for immediate access when you need it.

The shelter is maintained for backcountry emergencies and for hazards such as polar bear threats and extreme weather. It has an emergency 2-way radio for contacting help in life-threatening situations, and the Parks Canada park-wide guidance requires that all visitors register for Auyuittuq National Park and attend a mandatory orientation.
