Kintail Hut

Kintail Hut is a backcountry hut in Fiordland National Park managed by the Department of Conservation. It’s a standard 12-bunk hut in western Fiordland, used for overnight stays by backcountry parties trekking in the area.

Use is first come, first served—no standard bookings are required. There are fees, and you need to buy a Standard Hut Ticket (one per night of stay) and place it in the honesty box at the hut; there’s also a Backcountry Hut Pass option for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period. The hut has a fireplace, mattresses, sleeping platforms, and pit latrine toilets. Water is available but is untreated—plan to treat before drinking.
