Lake Hankinson Hut
Lake Hankinson Hut is a standard 11-bunk hut in western Fiordland National Park, operated by the Department of Conservation. The hut uses an honesty-box style system: no bookings are required—standard hut tickets are needed for the nights you stay (one ticket per night, placed in the honesty box), or you can use a Backcountry Hut Pass that covers most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period.
Facilities include drinking water from untreated supply and toilets with pit-latrine disposal. A fireplace and mattresses are available at the hut. Freshwater pest control matters here: didymo is present in Lake Te Anau and Eglinton River but not currently in Lake Hankinson, and any boats going into Lake Hankinson need to be thoroughly cleaned; visitors are also advised not to take water from these areas to avoid transporting didymo between waterways.
