Lower Olderog Bivouac

Lower Olderog Bivouac is a basic DOC backcountry hut in the Kelly Range–Styx River area (West Coast). It’s a two-bunk hut designed for straightforward, self-reliant overnight use in a remote setting. Use is free and no bookings are required—plan on first come, first served for the bunks.

The hut has mattresses and toilets, with a pit latrine system; there’s no drinking water provided and no fireplace. The DOC route to this hut is no longer maintained by DOC, with some sporadic maintenance and route information provided by Permolat. Approach with river safety in mind: if you’re crossing unbridged rivers or side streams, be ready to wait or turn back if conditions aren’t right.
