Lower Wairaki Hut

Lower Wairaki Hut is a four-bunk backcountry hut in the Takitimu Conservation Area (Southland), run by the Department of Conservation as part of the Te Araora Trail. Use is free and no bookings are required; it’s first come, first served.

The hut has drinking water that is untreated, sleeping space for 4 people, a fireplace, and toilets with pit-latrine disposal. Access to Lower Wairaki Hut from Ohai is only possible via Beaumont Station.
