Manaohou Right Branch Hut

Manaohou Right Branch Hut is a backcountry hut run by the Department of Conservation. Use it as a self-sufficient tramp/tramping shelter: it has a fireplace, mattresses, and drinking water is untreated; there’s also a pit latrine toilet on site.

For remote Te Urewera travel, plan to be fully prepared to camp without reliable services at hut sites. Carry a warm sleeping system and layers for wet and cold conditions, plus a shelter you can rely on (the hut may not be sufficient as your only option), and consider bringing a distress beacon because mobile reception can be unreliable in remote areas.
