McKerrow Island Hut
McKerrow Island Hut is a Department of Conservation 12-bunk standard backcountry hut in Fiordland National Park (Hollyford Valley area), used as a base for multi-day trips in the Fiordland backcountry. It has drinking water available, but it’s untreated, and the hut includes a fireplace plus mattresses and toilets with pit-latrine disposal.
Bookings are required for the standard 12-bunk hut beds, with fees listed per night (adult $10 per night, youth $5 per night, and child/infant $0 per night for stays up to 30 June 2026; updated rates apply from 1 July 2026). Stays can be booked online for dates up to 30 June 2027; if no availability appears for your dates, the hut is fully booked, and no spaces are kept for walk-ins. Tracks to the hut take about 4–5 days and are rated advanced.
