Middle Head Hut

Middle Head Hut is a six-bunk DOC backcountry hut in the Haast, Paringa & Moeraki Rivers area on the West Coast. Use is free and no bookings are required—stay is first come, first served. The hut has a fireplace, mattresses, and toilet facilities with a pit latrine disposal system.

Plan a 2+ day trip if you’re going in on foot. This is an advanced, expert level destination to reach, and the hut is managed by the Department of Conservation (Te Papa Atawhai).
