Mikonui Flat Hut

Mikonui Flat Hut is a standard six-bunk backcountry hut in the Mikonui River–Kakapotahi River area on the West Coast, operated by the Department of Conservation. Use is first come, first served—standard hut bookings aren’t required—while you still need to buy a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut (or use a Backcountry Hut Pass).

The hut operates with fees that run through 30 June 2026: $10 per night for adults (18+), $5 per night for youth (5–17), and free for children/infants (0–4). There are six bunks, and the hut includes mattresses and toilets (pit latrine). Fire is supported by a fireplace in the hut.
