Moonbeam Hut
Moonbeam Hut is a basic, six-bunk backcountry hut in the Waitaha River area of New Zealand’s West Coast, run by the Department of Conservation. It’s a first-come, first-served hut with six beds, and use is free.
Facilities include sleeping provided via mattresses and a pit latrine; drinking water is untreated. The hut sits on a route that is no longer maintained by DOC, with some maintenance done sporadically by Permolat, who also provide information about the route.
