Mudflats Hut

Mudflats Hut is a Department of Conservation six-bunk backcountry hut in the Kelly Range–Styx River area (West Coast). It’s set up for self-reliant overnight stays in the Hokitika area. Use is first come, first served—no bookings are required, but each night requires a Standard Hut Ticket placed in the honesty box at the hut (or an appropriate backcountry hut pass).

The hut has six beds, a fireplace, mattresses, and pit latrine toilets. Drinking water is untreated, so filter or treat. Fees apply: $10 per night for adults (18+), $5 per night for youth (5–17), and free for children/infants (0–4), with the hut ticket requirement in place for each night of stay.
