MUMC Hut
MUMC Hut (also known as Mount Feathertop Memorial Hut) is a geodesic-dome backcountry shelter at an altitude of about 1600 m on the North West Spur of Mt. Feathertop. It’s run by Melbourne University Mountaineering Club Inc. and serves as a bushwalking and ski-touring refuge in all weather conditions. The hut has a small anteroom and triangular windows, and its interior includes a suspended sleeping area plus an indoor sink and tap water fed by pumped rainwater stored in the cellar water tank.
The hut was designed and built by MUMC members in the mid-1960s, and it was intended to accommodate the club’s expected user numbers at the time (30–40 users). Practical features include numerous old pans and tables/seats, and even playing cards are kept in the shelter. The hut is maintained by the club and is accessible to the public.
