Murray Hunters Hut
Murray Hunters Hut is a basic six-bunk hunters’ hut in the Stewart Island/Rakiura area, managed by the Department of Conservation. It’s intended for hunters using the surrounding hunting blocks, and it offers very limited facilities—sleeping is via mattresses in a simple shelter setup rather than lodge-style services.
Bookings are required, and the hut must be booked and paid for through the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre. Water is not treated (boil before use), and the hut provides multi-fuel burners with take-your-own dry firewood; it also has a toilet (pit latrine), a meat safe, and basic tools/cleaning items but no cooking utensils or cooking options.
