North Arm Hut

North Arm Hut is a 24-bunk hut on the Rakiura Track in the Stewart Island/Rakiura area, run by the Department of Conservation within Rakiura National Park. Great Walk bookings are required for this hut, and the hut is for backcountry users on a tracks-and-huts style route rather than a drive-up facility.

Water at the hut is untreated, and it needs to be boiled before use. It has basic facilities including sleeping bunks, a wood burner/fireplace, and toilet facilities with a pit latrine disposal system; bring a sleeping bag plus a cooking stove (and fuel), toilet paper, a rubbish bag, and basic fire-starting items. Fees apply on a per-person, per-night basis, with prices varying by date and visitor type, and Backcountry Hut Passes and Backcountry Hut Tickets can’t be used here.
