North Big Glory Hunters Hut
North Big Glory Hunters Hut is a Department of Conservation–managed backcountry hunting hut in the Stewart Island/Rakiura area. It’s a basic six-bunk hut intended for hunters using the surrounding hunting blocks, with limited facilities and no DOC track access—plan your route and navigate independently once you’re in Rakiura National Park.
The hut has multi-fuel burners, rainwater tank water that must be boiled, mattresses, an indoor and outdoor meat safe bench, and a toilet with pit latrine disposal. There’s a fireplace, plus an axe or saw, broom, and dust pan, but no cooking options or utensils—bring what you need. Bookings are required and are handled through the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre; fees are $30 per person for up to 10 days (e.g., 1 night is $30). The hut is owned and maintained by the Rakiura Hunter Camp Trust, and it was funded and built by members of the Central Otago Deerstalkers Club in 2001.
