North Pegasus Hunters Hut
North Pegasus Hunters Hut is a basic backcountry hut in Stewart Island/Rakiura—used to accommodate hunters who have booked the surrounding hunting blocks. The hut is an 8-bunk shelter; it’s owned and maintained by the Rakiura Hunter Camp Trust and it’s available for public use, but bookings and payment are handled through the Rakiura National Park Visitor Centre.
Inside, plan for very limited facilities: there are mattresses, a toilet (pit latrine), and a multi-fuel burner with an axe/saw, broom, and dust pan available. Drinking water is not treated (boil water before use); the hut has a 1000-litre rainwater tank. There are no cooking options or utensils, so bring what you need for meals and personal navigation gear, because it has no DOC track access and you must plan your own route and navigate yourself.
