Old Aparima Hut is a DOC backcountry hut in New Zealand’s Takitimu Conservation Area (Southland). It’s a standard 12-bunk hut, set up for tramping-style overnight stays on the Te Araroa route network, with use typically on a first-come, first-served basis (no bunks are reserved).

Inside, expect basic hut facilities: mattresses, heating, and non-flush toilets. There’s a hut ticket required for overnight use—Standard Hut Tickets can be bought for each night and placed in the honesty box at the hut, or you can use a Backcountry Hut Pass that allows unlimited stays at most standard and serviced DOC huts for 12 months (adult: $10/night; youth 5–17: $5/night).

DOC expects visitors to follow the standard Hut Code of Conduct, including taking all rubbish out.
