Pinnacle Bivouac

Pinnacle Bivouac is a basic two-bunk hut in the Kokatahi River–Whitcombe River area on the West Coast, managed by the Department of Conservation. It’s set up for off-grid backcountry use with mattresses and toilet facilities (pit latrine).

Use is free and no bookings are required—plan on first come, first served. The hut is on a route that is no longer maintained by the Department of Conservation, so expect your access to depend on other sporadic maintenance and local guidance. When using it, bring your own food, cooking gear, and shelter system appropriate for a bivvy/remote hut setting.
