Rakeahua Hut

Rakeahua Hut is a Department of Conservation standard six-bunk backcountry hut in the Stewart Island/Rakiura area (Rakiura National Park). It’s set up for use on first come, first served basis—no standard bookings are required—but you still need to obtain a Standard Hut Ticket for each night and place it in the honesty box at the hut.

The hut water is untreated, so boil water before use. The hut has drinking water (untreated), mattresses, a fireplace, and pit latrine toilets. Fees are charged (adult $10 per night through 30 June 2026; youth $5 per night for ages 5–17; ages 0–4 free), and hut ticket/pass rates change from 1 July 2026.
