Refuges de Ghignu

Refuges de Ghignu are a set of restored stone shepherd cabins (“les paillers de Ghignu”) in the Désert des Agriates near the coast, accessed only on foot or by boat. The site is set up for a quiet overnight stay away from services: there’s no electricity, no kitchen, and no shower, and it’s dark inside the cabins at night.

Use the cabins as a base and pack for self-sufficiency. Bring a mattress, sleeping bag, and a flashlight/headlamp; toilets are shared, and tap water is for technical use only and needs filtration before drinking. Cabins have sleeping spaces (bedding is not supplied), you’ll need to bring your own food, and reservations are required for stays. The main on-site rules are to keep silence, don’t leave waste, and don’t make fires.

Access planning: the approach ties into the coastal hiking route between Ostriconi and Lotu. The walk from Ostriconi to Ghignu takes about four hours, following the shore through rocks and scrub, with strong morning sun in peak season—start early. Pack sun protection, water, and snacks for the crossing.
