Rogers Hut

Rogers Hut (Te Wairoa) is a standard backcountry hut in Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park (East Coast), in the Urewera Range near the border of Te Urewera. It sleeps up to 6 people in bunk beds and is built with matai framing and interior slab-beech walls.

Overnight use runs on a first-come, first-served basis (no booking required). Before you go, buy a Hut Ticket for each night you’re staying and place it in the honesty box at the hut; a Backcountry Hut Pass also covers stays at most Standard and Serviced huts.

Inside, the hut has heating, mattresses, a non-flush toilet, and a non-treated water supply. Rogers Hut was built in 1952 for deer cullers, and it’s one of only three remaining slab-beech huts in the Urewera Range.
