Slaughterburn Hut

Slaughterburn Hut is a basic backcountry hut in Fiordland National Park in the Tuatapere area, run by the Department of Conservation. It’s a 6-bunk hut near the Waitutu River, suited to independent overnight trips where you’ll navigate yourself rather than rely on a DOC track to the hut.

Inside, the hut is equipped with mattresses and a wood-and-coal burner for heating, plus a toilet (pit latrine) and a water tank. Use is free and no bookings are required; it’s first come, first served.
