South Huxley Bivouac
South Huxley Bivouac is a basic two-bunk hut operated by the Department of Conservation in Ruataniwha Conservation Park (Canterbury). It’s set up for first come, first served use, and it’s reached after a backcountry approach that takes about 8–9 hours one way (around 23 km) up the Huxley valley, off Hopkins valley, at the end of Lake Ohau Road.
The hut sleeps two in two bunk beds and includes a fireplace, mattresses, and toilet facilities with a pit latrine disposal. Bookings aren’t required, and there’s no drinking water provided.
