Spoon Hut

Spoon Hut is a small, DOC-managed backcountry hut on the true right bank of the Spoon River in South Westland, New Zealand, used as a basic sleep stop on remote Jackson Bay–Gorge River tramping routes. It has four bunk beds with mattresses and a separate external toilet.

Use is first-come, first-served with no advance booking. The hut has a basic off-grid setup: you’ll need to bring everything you need for meals and basic hut life, and plan for no internal heating or running water; water is sourced from the nearby stream. Hut users should pack out all rubbish and recycle.
