Stan’s Hut is a four-bunk standard hut in the Glaciers area of the Whataroa region on West Coast stewardship land, run by the Department of Conservation. It’s a first-come, first-served hut with no standard track access—plan your route and navigate yourself with map, compass, and GPS.

For hut stays, booking isn’t required, but you must put DOC hut ticket payment into the honesty box at the hut: adult (18+) $10 per night, youth (5–17) $5 per night, and child/infant (0–4) free. If you arrive with your own mattress, it may still be necessary to bring bedding suitable for a basic hut—there are no provided drinking water or a fireplace, and toilets are pit latrines.
