Takarua Hut

Takarua Hut is a backcountry hut managed by the Department of Conservation in the Te Urewera area. It has sleeping provisions and a fireplace, plus drinking water described as untreated, and pit latrine toilets onsite.

Decommissioning of some Te Urewera backcountry huts has been underway, with advice to check for alerts before you go; Te Urewera visitors are also directed to carry a self-sufficient shelter and essential gear for remote conditions.
