Te Whare Ruruhau
Te Whare Ruruhau is a remote cabin on Owhaoko ancestral lands, designed for a secluded backcountry stay. It’s accessed only by helicopter, with the experience focused on privacy and time in the New Zealand wilderness. Use options include a hosted package (Chris Jolly Outdoors handling meals, lighting the fire, and keeping the space tidy) or a self-catering package available to New Zealand residents only.
The cabin has an open-plan central living space with a kitchen, dining, and lounge area opening onto a covered porch and spacious decks. Sleeping is in two double bedrooms, and the bathroom includes continuous hot water, a flush toilet, vanity, shower, and towels, plus an extra-large bathtub on the decking for bathing outdoors. Activities offered around the stay include walking paths through native forest and alpine grasslands, plus opportunities such as a guided hike to a river picnic spot and time by rivers/headwaters on the property.
