Teal Bay Hut
Teal Bay Hut is a standard 12-bunk backcountry hut in Fiordland National Park (Tuatapere area), run by the Department of Conservation. It’s set up for walkers who want an overnight base on the Fiordland track system.
Bookings aren’t required—use is first come, first served. Fees are charged per night (from 18+ years $10; youth 5–17 years $5; children/infants 0–4 free), with prices changing from 1 July 2026; a Standard Hut Ticket (adult blue or youth yellow) must be placed in the honesty box for each night’s stay, or a Backcountry Hut Pass can be used for unlimited use at most Standard and Serviced huts for a 12-month period.
The hut has 12 beds, drinking water is untreated, and there’s a fireplace plus mattresses. Toilet facilities are provided as a pit latrine, and no reservation system is used.
