Thunder Dome
Thunder Dome is a mostly sport-climbing crag within the CIC Slabs area near Nelson in British Columbia’s West Kootenays. The crag has 18 listed routes, with climbs reaching up to 30 m.
The area includes two single-pitch and two two-pitch climbs. Visionary climbs 18 m followed by 28 m, while Enlightenment uses 20 m and 28 m pitches; both are bolt-protected. Passage and Rite of Passage are mid-5th-class routes, with Passage offering a choice of a mid-station or a right-hand anchor.
The upper pitches contain the crag’s harder slab climbing, around 5.8, with short, well-protected cruxes. A two-bolt traverse links the upper belay stations above the first pitches of the two left-hand routes.
Approach from the east end of Elwyn Street. Turn right, park at the clearing, follow the road east rather than the rail trail, and look for the climbers’ trail on the right.
