Route Details

Ulu Emergency Shelter is a Parks Canada emergency shelter cabin in Auyuittuq National Park, Nunavut. It’s intended for emergency use only in extreme weather or polar bear threats, and the shelter is never locked for access when you’re in danger.

The shelter has key rules: you do not sleep inside, you do not cook inside, and you do not store food, fuel, or equipment. Keep it tidy—food and trash attract animals and odors linger—and use the shelter radios at park broadcast times if you need current weather, trail conditions, polar bear updates, or to contact staff (the radios are monitored during regular business hours in peak season).

Use is free and no reservation is accepted for emergency shelters; they can’t be reserved and must remain open for anyone in danger. If you need to camp, camp outside the shelter.
