Alpine hutUnknown Stream Hut is a basic four-bunk backcountry hut in Craigieburn Forest Park (Canterbury region), run by the Department of Conservation. Use is free and no bookings are required; it’s first come, first served.
Access is by route-finding only: there is no DOC track to the hut, so plan your approach and navigation yourself (map, compass, and GPS). Water and sanitation are limited to what you can manage on-site: there is no drinking water provided, and toilets are an outhouse setup with pit latrine disposal; the hut has a fireplace and mattresses.
