Upper Te Hoe Hut
Upper Te Hoe Hut is a Department of Conservation standard nine-bunk backcountry hut in Whirinaki Te Pua-a-Tāne Conservation Park (East Coast). It sits in beech forest and works as a midway stop between Central Te Hoe Hut and Upper Whirinaki Hut. The hut is first come, first served (no standard bookings required), with nine beds available.
Facilities include drinking water that is untreated and pit latrines for toilets. It has a fireplace and mattresses provided. Fees apply, and you need a Standard Hut Ticket for each night’s stay (or a Backcountry Hut Pass); the schedule of rates runs through 30 June 2026, with new fees from 1 July 2026. The hut is maintained in partnership with the New Zealand Deer Stalkers Association.
